I don't know where do you live but when I was in my high school it's pretty normal to watch anime and read mangas, there were a tons of girls who read shoujos even without being an otaku. Since my childhood my parents knew well that I like to watch anime and read mangas, they are fine with it.

I always thought becoming an otaku is by the nature of who and how you grow up and shit. But no. I was completely wrong. When I was growing up, I chilled with people who smoked weed, drink and even fight for fun. And yes, I was one of those people. More surprising my friends did watch anime too.
I keep my real life and my anime life kind of balanced.
But if I had to pick one. I would go for my real life of course. But that will never happen.
I love anime and nothing can change that.

Dude your not the only one. I get looked down apon for liking anime. I also get looked down apon by people of my own race because I dont act like a thug and for speaking properly in public. The world sucks and there is nothing we can do about it :/

nope. Back in high school we had to present anything for english class. the team consists of 4 people. the teacher made the groups on random. I said to the members of my team that we're going to present about animes. at first they said hell no, but then I gave them a sneak on one of my collections and they liked it.
at the presentation day, I played the same vid and the whole class liked it and the teacher gave us the highest scores in class.
eventhough not all the guys at school liked it, all of us respect each others hobbies.

I've only been bullied once for my love for manga and anime, and they made themselves look like retards by randomly shouting "NARUTO" in the middle of class (happened this year). All they did was see the cover and did that stupid narrow minded Idiots. Ive never been teased by my friends cause they all love manga and anime and are good (somewhat...uum...different) people. I got bullied because I'm 18 5'5 130 pounds Black hair, glasses, and black hoodies every day.

I was bullied all the time at school, not because of being an Otaku but because I was very small compared to the others (i was under 5 foot in high school) and of course alot of the bigger kids throught the best way to show their strength was to oviviously beat the S**t out of a kid who was skinny, shorter and had no muscles.
Dont believe for one second though you are at fault for the bullying, be proud of who you are and what you are becoming, those who wish to harm those different to them are nothing short of pathetic and when it comes down to it and your with your family and loved one and you walk pasted them in the street sweeping you will know you was the winning at the end of it all.

Also, they waited until I fell asleep and pull my tin cans of yugioh cards out my book bag and set them on the desk next to me sleeping, yugioh cards = antigirl magnets.
Ultimately though, i was never really picked on probably because i always had a few friends within the popular crowd and i keep to myself a little bit barely associating with people other than friends and classmates.
