Actually, the reason we didn't bomb Kyoto, which was one of the main targets listed, is because one of those guys in charge, can't remember which, had his honeymoon there.

Actually, the honeymoon thing is true, Henry Stimson, the Secretary of War at the time, had his second honeymoon in Kyoto and was afraid that the Japs would never forgive or forget. He just went in lockdown mode, and Kyoto was left off the list
And the reason they only attacked Hiroshima and Nagasaki was because they only had 2 at the time. Plus they didnt like the idea either, and they had to pick only cities which were relatively undamaged by the convential bombing that was taking place. And to add on to that, they had to pick a valleyish area, so that the explosion would be more contained
