Questions about FMA: Brotherhood vs Manga

Tried wording this question a few ways, so bare with me. Puttin it in a seperate thread because I have ran into some manga-spoilers within the anime show threads on here, and really don't want to risk it with a show I like this much. fyi I am completely up to the date with the brotherhood series as of this week.
Anyways, just wondering what the relation is between this show and the manga? Ive heard its pretty much strait up the manga story, without any filler, and that would seem to be the case after watching it. The problem with that is, late I checked, the manga is still being released. (albeit not very often). But, even though its been going for like a decade, they only have like 114 manga releases, and when your shows nearing its 60th episode, usually that means it would be almost caught up. So, is the manga story about to end and the show is just timed so that it will end shortly after? Or are they just going to have to pull a naruto and take a long ass break before resuming core story? You would think if the story weren't ending soon they would have interjected filler to slow down the progress of the manga story line, but they really havent from what I understand.
So basicaly, I just would like to know from someone whos been keeping up with the manga what the situation is. I have tried to look into it myself, but the only way I would know how far into the manga story they are is to know how far the manga story has gone, not something I want to find out. Sorry if this topics been discussed already. did some searches and didn't really find anything but the main discussion thread.
In short, just wondering what the deal is with the manga, and how close to catching up the anime is. Please try and keep it relatively spoiler free. Thanks for anyone taking the time to read this awkward wall of text.

The manga is actually nearing it's end, as is the anime, they will be ending relatively around the same time. The manga only has one chapter left, and the anime will end with a total of 63 episode's, they will share the same ending. (Oh and the manga is released monthly, which is why it can seem it barely is released.)
