The Irregular in Magic High School: 7/10
The show is glowing!! No seriously, if someone walks in on you while watching this and doesn't know jack about anime, they'd think you've pumped up your gamma/trying to ruin your eyes. The show handled a superman-ish character pretty nicely since he's covered in mystery for the most part of the show. Characters are simple-looking but the glow just makes it attractive.
The bad thing about this show is that there's less fun, so to speak. At the early episodes, I've watched more explanations than cool battle scenes and that's just boring for me. Their fun times is so short that you'd only chuckle before you get thrown back to the serious situation. To add, another problem for this show is that it's kind of like a mainstream, "throw the problem at him" feel that just puts me off. Lastly is the transition of arcs - there are two arcs that's got an event that is missing after they teased me for it back at the first one. By the time the last one enters, I just said to myself:"hypocrites, in the end it's the same shit".
So in the end it's not a bad watch yet there's still slight problems in the show. At least it's not as bad as SAO II.
A very large amount of this post is very true. I had just realized just how vibrant the show actually is(literally). Unfortunately the LN suffers from the same exact issues as the show. Way too much elaboration about magic, here's the kicker, the LN is fucking absurd with the explanations. If I were to dumb down all the explanations of magic in the LN I could easily kill off like 3-4 books from the series. There's just THAT MUCH.
But where I agree to disagree with your points are the levels of action. I'm not to particularly crazy about the action scenes, I just wish the ones with Tatsuya were far more showy.
A perfect example was the 9-Schools Arc
When Tatsuya is destroying Ichijou's A-Rank "Rupture" spell with Gram Demolition while stylishly flipping all over the place.
That particular scene literally made me jump out of my chair, because the final parts of it were just so fucking stylish, it literally was exactly how I saw it from the book.
He truly is a monster of another class, but he doesn't give me the vibes I get from reading about him, despite all that his Seiyuu did an excellent job.
Anyways,
Sword of the Stranger
8.3/10
This movie is simply bonkers. The fight scenes that do exist are absolutely godlike. For a one-shot thing I absolutely love this movie, Chinese and Japanese swordsmen cutting each other to pieces, drugs, dogs, and little boys, what's not to like? But seriously, if anybody hasn't seen this movie yet, do yourself a favor and go torrent this shit.
