Yozakura Quartet 6.5/10
Refreshingly not a romance; I've been watching too many anime lately where romance is a major plot point or used as a comedy relief tool. An ogre girl having a crush on the main dude and her brother not liking it is about the extent of it.
The anime was okay but it was nothing special. The concept of yokai living with humans in a fictional town specifically for co-existence is what grabbed me. I expected the yokai to have otherworldly appearences or at least differ from humans in some way but nope; only the odd exceptions like the catgirl and her brother who's an unwilling antagonist. Which brings me to my next point; the anime does the "main antagonist is a friend of the main characters" (as I mentioned before, unwilling; as in he's possessed) and the "main heroine doesn't acknowledge the power of friendship/teamwork until the final battle" tropes to death.
It was watchable throughout until
Kotoha spawned machine guns and used them. A majority of the time she goes
DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA! while firing them and I just fucking cringed. I gathered she has to use her voice to create and control things so there's a plot relevant reason for it but she doesn't always do it while firing them, and when she doesn't those scenes are so much better.
Might pick up the manga, see if anything got left out of the anime. Turns out it's a fairly long running series.
