I clicked on this topic thinking, "What is this? The title seems a little bit familiar..." and it turns out to be Saikano.
I haven't read the manga, but the anime I have seen. Judging from the picture you put up, the art seems infinitely more appealing than the anime, but I don't know if it's worth going through the entire series again just for that. Although from what I remember reading off of wikipedia, the ending of the manga and anime are quite different, but everything else is the same...

I too prefer saying Saikano but I thought it would be best to label it with it's full name.
I still haven't watched the anime. To be truthful, it is mostly because I'm lazy and because I fear regretting it. I have already regretted watching the adaptation of Eragon and though it's not a manga, now I differentiate between series that I actually watch in anime and those I don't. Same for anime. Code Geass, I watched the Anime and dropped one of its adaptation after three pages.
I recommend you read it, The art is incredible, and you probably won't regret it ^^.
