Scary or Creepy Anime

So I'm wandering the internet as I am wont to do, and I came across a bunch of cool creepy pictures.
So I got to wondering, are there any good anime out there that have this kind of theme or style?? I've seen one or two, Jigoku Shoujo being the one that comes to mind, but I'd like to see more.
Any suggestions?

Have you tried 'Petshop of Horrors'? I think it has four episodes. About a, well, a petshop that sells very 'exotic' creatures to people. These usually come with very specific instructions, and in true 'gremlins' fashion, people refuse to follow them. Horror ensues.

While I don't think the anine Ghost Hunt is particularly scary, it is about the paranormal and creates good suspense with a great plot to boot. Leastwise, when I watch it, I get goosebumps. I highly recommend this anime, one of my favorites of all time.

If you haven't tried it yet, watch Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. It's the scariest anime I've ever seen, and it's so compelling that I watched the entire first season, all 26 episodes, in one day. That's really saying something, because my record before that for most anime episodes watched in a day was 10 with the series Akagi.
Also, the first four episodes of Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales are pretty good. The other episodes are still good, but they aren't really creepy.
A lot of people like Requiem from the Darkness, otherwise known as Natsuhiko Kyougoku's Hundred Stories, but I didn't care for the series. It's full of blood and gore and cool things to look at, but I didn't like the character designs or the characters themselves. Still, you may want to give it a try.
Now, I have a question: Has anybody seen the Demonbane anime? I heard it has Lovecraftian themes and images in it, and it sounds interesting, but I haven't gotten any real input on the series. Is it worth watching?

I'd suggest you watch Kikoushi Enma. I've created a thread for it at the specific anime section which you might want to see.

I didn't find it that scary (it really depends on the viewer) but tbh, I enjoyed every second of this 4ep/50min OVA. Just check out the thread I've provided for more reference.
Other titles that comes to mind are:
Ghost Hound (Production I.G.) - which I have yet to resume and finish watching.
Mnemosyne (Xebec) 6ep OVA - again, which I have yet to finish, but most certainly Creepy/Disturbing enough. Just see it for yourself.
There's still something at the back of my head but I just can't remember it right now...

I stopped watching it around ep5 or 6 perhaps. But if you're a fan of Lolis and Mechs combined, you might enjoy it.
Everything that Shaggy mentioned. I've seen them all so you might as well give those titles a shot. (they're all good) Higurashi being my least favorite - mainly because I'm not much of a LOLI fan.
Speaking of which, I finally remembered Mouryou no Hako, based from the novel that was created by Natsuhiko Kyogoku. I'm currently following it but due to sub issues, I'm stuck at ep8. :x

@ShaggyJebus: Oh yeah, I completely forgot about Higurashi no Koro ni... but as scary as it was, it made absolutely no fucking sense, with such bad plot and animation quality that I couldn't stand the series. It was more like I had a "wtf" reaction to the first couple of episodes I watched.
As for Demonbane, I've watched a couple of episodes from the 2006 anime, but it was kinda dumb. As for the 2004 OVA, I have no idea about that since I've never watched it.

Kurozuka : not the scariest perhaps but it certainly has it's moments. Action, blood and a post-apocalyptic setting. Madhouse production guaranties stunning sound/art. No lolis.
Cossette no Shouzou (Le Portrait de Petit Cossette) : a 3-part OVA. A bit twisted and fairly artistic. Beautiful music and visuals. This is basically what would've happened if they ever decided to make a horror out of Rozen Maiden.
Shingetsutan Tsukihime : certainly has an excellent ominous mood and ample of blood. Will probably fail if you know the orginal story from the game though. Another series with stunning music.
Most of the above mentioned as well.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is the creepiest but scary.... :-? there are no scary animes out there yet... as in to scare the shit out of me xD but they are verry welcomed here :P

yeah.....its worth watching...........the girl heroine is like index (a magical book).....with romance and mecha in it......actualy i kinda liked the series.....
