SHAFT Announces all Monogatari novels shall get adaptations

So we knew this was coming, SHAFT has announced they will animate every single monogatari by NisiOisiN including the third season. I found this on MAL:

For those of you asking about the series, I've personally gone through the novels and here's a list of them in order of chronology:

Nisemonogatari ( Two novels, Karen and Tsukihi )

Edit : I am not aware of the plans but there is a good possibility we get 5 special episodes based on the Bakemonogatari short stories.

Most presumably a Blu Ray Special or something, just a thought.

I dropped Nisemonogatari, and now the movie is postponed again? This upsets me.

NisiOisiN has stated himself Nisemonogatari was created for his own tastes and never intended to publish it directly.

The rest of the books will be better, and I guarantee that Nise was the worst of the fan service.

Furthermore, you may have been working under the assumption that even if the movie was released this year, you'd get eng-subs. Chances are, you wouldn't be able to watch it until 2013 even if it premièred this year.

I still need to finish Bakemonogatari.

I'll get round to it eventually. The new anime season has started so I've got all those episode 1s to watch.

Medaka box is my personal pick, next to Otome x Amnesia.

Update : I've come to realise that the side stories may get specials too, since they relate to the core story.

I was actually planning on watching Medaka Box next. I've only watched Acchi Kocchi so far, which is awesome.

Their both fairly good. I'm praying for a Zaregoto anime.

I liked the Monogatari sereis well enough, I just wish someone would publish the fucking novels in english, SERIOUSLY PUBLISHERS WHAT IS IT WITH YOU AND YOUR FEAR OF NOVELS DO YOU THINK ALL OTAKU ARE ILLITERATE OR SOEMTHING, sorry it just pisses me off that we get the manga and anime version of everything but never the original novel version (except in a few rare cases). I get that a lot companies have gotten burned on some novels before but I don't care, I want fucking Toradora, wait what were we talking about again?

Let me explain;

I.
The monogatari novels are raking in insane amounts of money in Japan. If the potential business pursuit arose in the past, or even in the present, it would have already been pursued.

II.
The Blu Ray volumes for Bakemonogatari are the best sales any animation has made in the 21st century, capping 72,000 volumes. This record was broken the next year by SHAFT's Madoka. This in turns directs a good number of viewers, namely japanese, into buying the light novels to read. The money made is not only from the blu ray volumes but also other merchandise that varies from licensing models to goods that range from keyrings to plushies. That money that they're making is safe and secure, hence why they are animating the rest of the series.

Bearing that in mind, one would think that expanding into western cultures with an english localisation would be effective; but who'd want to buy seventeen books (Yes I know they're not books, but the average schmoe would call them that), considering how fast a series like Harry Potter dropped in popularity as time progressed.

III.
The novels, by NisiOisiN, are full of intelligent puns, wordplay, and various notes and remarks only understandable in Japanese. Furthermore, the nature of the book (A harem, fantasy comedy that takes place because a guy goes out to buy porn and runs into a vampire) is not suitable for any westernised culture, and publishing a translation (Which would be utterly expensive considering how difficult the translations are) wouldn't be in any shape or form an intelligent, viable business operation. Not many people in the US or UK would, in their right minds, laugh at a guy about to graduate, fondling his sisters then proceeding to molest an under-aged girl. No, I don't care if she's technically twenty, nobody will buy that shit.

IV.
Now consider this; how much would 11 and soon to be 14 LN volumes sell if they were localised in english, and who in their right minds as a publisher would offer to pursue such a business? I'm not ruling it out entirely, but I'm not surprised that it hasn't been translated, nor am I angry at all (nobody should be) that they probably never will be; the best you can get are fan translations for the distant future.

V.
A perfect example of how Light Novels do in western cultures; Spice & Wolf. There are 17 in total, and Yen Press has expressed their interests in publishing all 17. They publish 2 a year in english, and they already have to print out a removable cover with a cosplay of horo because book stores do not want to stock a book with manga art on its cover. That's already costing the publisher said percentage of their profits = publishers unhappy.
Their sales aren't exactly fantastic, best case scenario, a good handful of otaku and other interested parties buy the volumes to collect and read. The fan translations are available on the internet, in relatively decent written quality for those not willing to pay, in addition to the fact that even the fanlations are ahead of yen press.

In conclusion;
Screw your rage, your opinion is irrelevant and you shouldn't be angry.
I wrote this unbearable, long post in order to bury whatever hopes and anger you hold against a failed and unlikely english localisation. For future reference, please try to engage your brain instead of writing with your amygdala at the command center while you mash your keyboard with allcaps. Caps ain't cool son.

I want the Monogatari LN's (and a bunch of others) licensed too. Some parts of the books dont carry into anime and I prefer to read anyways. In any adaptation sometimes parts get removed or slightly changed from the original. I'm one of the few people who would buy ALL of them should they get licensed.

I don't care that it doesn't appeal to whatever standards a western market has, and most fans will not care either. In fact, I've never seen anyone advertise anything manga/anime related to begin with so most of the consumers will know what they are buying anyways. If the books are translated and sold from Japan quite a few of us would pay the shipping to get it which completely circumvents the issues with the market. As for finding translators, I don't think many fan-translators will mind getting paid for their efforts.

The cost of licensing is something else entirely and is the biggest reason why few things get licensed. If a company really wanted to they can release e-books which will be far cheaper.

All I'm saying is that in as much as you are right that there are difficulties in getting a series licensed. It is by no means impossible.

@Thread: This made my day. I read about it before as a rumor but I'm guessing its official now. I wasn't expecting to see subs on Kizu until 2013 anyways so I don't mind not seeing it until 2014.

Undoubtedly something I can't disagree with, you are correct indeed. However I find it reckless that a simple "I don't care" is all you can throw at a licensing issue, haha.
