Anyways, back to the show, some aspects of it threw me for a loop. The OP featured a ballad and the imagery reminded me of the Elfen Lied OP.
...
And I'm pretty sure a platoon consists of over 20 soldiers at the minimum. Depending on the subs, I'm pretty sure five soldiers make up a squad, not a platoon. And to think that they are supposed to defend the border with a broken down tank and manpower of five? Lol.
The opening DID remind me of Elfen Lied's as well. Graphically.
Hm... there were some parts of the episode where I think the reality for the younger girls are just slowly sinking in, like drips from a faucet. I think Felicia and Rio are already mature enough to be aware of it.
I initially thought "why only 5?" at the start of ep2, but it became apparent to me that Kureha's depression isn't simply due to loneliness - they're being much left behind and ignored in the middle of nowhere by the army higher-ups, seeing their broken-down machinery, often-delayed supplies and platoon base made from a post-war school.
Not to mention they're only 5 (excluding the pet owl they just got), and the best the army sent them is an inexperienced communications bugler. Yep, and to think they're supposed to defend the border. Cruel army.
But there may be something more to it.
Actually it gave me a hunch that the country setting is that of former Japan's, except that the Japanese traditions and customs might have been extinct as well after a big war or so.
So the happy Seize platoon family is now solidified. Onwards to episode 3, should be fun as well.
