Ok... where to start.
I'll say the good stuff first. The animation was stunning, no doubt about that. Ever since I saw the two movies, I was expecting something of stellar quality, and the TV series did not disappoint me. The characters were beautifully drawn, the action scenes were smoothly done, and the landscapes and colors were awesome. The music was also great, done by Eufonius and Cieu. There were no problems in the voice-acting compartment either.
Now onto stuff that I didn't like. I more or less knew the plot since I watched the first two movies, so nothing surprised me there. Solid, original, and yet I understood it. What disappointed me with this series was the fact that Kyoani and it's director Kigami spent the first 5 and a half episodes redoing the movies with more scenes and the director's cut. The later 3 and half episodes were brand new material. This, no matter how well done the other categories that make up anime were, disappointed me a great deal. I was expecting more new and orginal material, and 9 episodes (really 3 1/2 episodes) wasn't enough in my opinion.
As for the last episode, I forced myself to rewatch it, and then I appreciated the episode for the reasons that there's going to be a movie (Tenjou-jin to Akuto-jin Saigo no Tatakai) on April 18 that will conclude the series. And because of that, much of the criticism I had with the last episode was dispelled, except for the fact that I still think that Yumemi just matured in the span of a few minutes didn't sit too well with me in terms of character development, especially with her voice deepening to reflect that. Much of the dialogue said during the reconnection and reforming the flow of Akuto was to me a bit out of place... I kinda can't understand where those words come from, like Yumemi had an issue with her looks? Yea. And even if there's a movie to conclude this series, I still felt that the ending should have focused more on Yumemi and her relationship with Munto. I was kinda hoping for an embrace or something along the lines of romance, but I guess that was portrayed by Yumemi wrapped up in Munto's red cape. I wonder if the preparations that Munto had to do was a marriage to Yumemi since it was important enough for him to be away from the meeting with all other beings in the upper world.
Still, I'm still expecting a lot from this series, especially how the movie will conclude everything. And I feel like anything done by Kyoani is a must see. I still enjoyed this series very much.
One last thing: Ichiko annoyed the shit out of me, trying to keep Yumemi from going, though I can understand where she's coming from.
