This is a big one for me. It is what got me into anime, and I haven't seen anything like it since.
The story of a crew trying to survive in the universe, constantly being hunted by a warrior race that wants to possess the infinite power that humanity has stumbled upon. On one hand, you can watch as simply being a sci-fi mecha series. In another light, it can be seen as a commentary on how humanity's inability to put aside its differences will only lead down the path of destruction for everyone.
With a great story and an ending that will never be forgotten by those who saw it, Space Runaway Ideon is, IMO, one of the greatest anime of all time.
