One of the new anime for summer season has started.
It starts off with the main character Komoe wearing the Sailor uniform which seems to be the new school uniform in Taisho era.
Kimono is like...Old school
And considering its 1925, our happy lead takes off around Taishou-era Tokyo singing
Guiding the viewer around Tokyo
Happy girl is happy
My favourite part of the song
Too bad the reality is different...
Old school is cool!
At school we're introduced to another character Akiko who wanted to form a Baseball team. Looks like a nice girl but seems like she's kind of manipulating(not sure if thats the right word) Komoe into joining her baseball team and don't intend to let Komoe run away from it.
Saying no is not an option
Akiko pretty determined to form a team invited the girls in their class to join the team and watch a baseball team doing their training. We get to know that the team will be going against a boys baseball team which reminded me of Princess Nine.
Determined to form a team but have no idea about baseball
We get to know that the team will be going against a boys baseball team which reminded me of Princess Nine. Upon arriving at the training field the girls are in for a surprise.
Run away, run away!
Later we get more explaination of why Akiko really determined to form a baseball team. She feels insulted after hearing some comment from this one guy, she wants to prove him wrong.
I guess its pretty normal having that kind of view of girls during that era, nevertheless its not a nice thing to say..
...because it makes a cute girl cry. Unforgivable!
At the end of the episode we have another two girls joining the team the Meganekko Kawashima and the gentle beauty, Souya. WIth only 5 more left to make it into a complete time they might have gathered all the teammates by the next episode.
5 more girls left
Seems like a nice slice of life anime with girls trying to form a baseball team to fight against boys team. I have the feeling the pacing of this anime will be pretty slow and there won't be fast paced action or special effects except maybe for some funny moments but not to the point of exaggerating it. Those looking for action might ended up sleeping watching this anime. Its the type of anime where it is meant to be watched in a relaxing manner.
I really enjoyed the episode, that much I can say. It’s fun to see how a girl (Akiko) gets offended and in wanting to prove this certain guy wrong, she just decided to play a game which she doesn’t even know of, except for its name. I spell the series as F.U.N. - cause it really is. Seeing their reaction from witnessing the hellish training was just priceless. And I love the way it started with Koume's montage (as spalose suggested) dream sequence. She's my favorite girl, at least for now. :D
Definitely suits me well. Pacing wise, it isn’t actually slow as it is, considering that it’s just the first episode and they’ve already managed to form a group of 4, with 5 more left to recruit, and the tomboyish blue-haired girl already showing much interest in joining. The way I see it, they complete forming the team, practice, practice (plus character buildup), issues arises, play against another team, and so on... I haven’t determined its total number of episodes yet but I wouldn’t be surprised to see this go up to 24 at the very least.
Though you’re absolutely right about it not being “action-packed” since it isn’t anything about that obviously. It’s a slice of life series dating back to the Taisho era; In a sense, it’s just like K-ON! with not just only 5-8 girls to focus on but 9-10, and instead of playing music, they’re playing baseball. :D
