The best KEY-visual-novel-based anime?

Definitely gave my vote for Clannad here. Besides it being my favorite anime series of all times, I just believe that it is superior to the other two. I watched Kanon a few months ago and while I did enjoy most of the story arcs, it didn't spark my emotions as much as Clannad did. I tried to watch some of Air, but it just didn't appeal to me so that's where I stand.

In my opinion Clannad wins this one for me without a doubt.

Air for me. one of the few things in the world that can make me cry. Overall the ending was better planned than the others, and it had half the run time as them.

Kanon was just plain fun to watch.

Clannad... too many characters in too little time. Kyou arc rushed, Tomoyo arc too short (and she got her own game! Come on! make that into an anime! The manga version was the shitz!), Fuko...was stupid.

I actually wouldn't mind watching this if it does get animated. The question is, when?

Clannad without a doubt... if I had any doubt Kanon would be a close second.

I'm thinking maybe fall...but with the same company doing Fairy Tail during that time...I have my doubts.

Oh man, that's mean. Making me pick between Kanon and Clannad...

Without having seen After Story, I'd vote for Kanon, but the last third of AS just threw me for an emotional roller coaster. So I'd have to go with Clannad, but it tears me up inside to have to choose.

As for Air, never seen it, haven't heard too much about it, and only know about it before this thread from Wikipedia browsing (which started with Kanon or Clannad; I can't remember which).

it really sounds unfair when people are voting for Kanon and Clannad but never watched Air, the FIRST anime/VN that made KEY/Visual Arts as famous as they are now.

I might get around to watching it eventually... but I currently have better things to do and I've heard it wasn't that great.

Air the series is good, just as Kanon the remake, and clannad the series are.

What I'm getting at is that on all three, Toei adapted it first, With Kanon 2002, the Air movie, and the Clannad movie.

However, they did such a crappy job at interpreting Key with all three of them that KyoAni came behind them.

KyoAni knows how to adapt a fucking VN. They SAVED Key's works from being destroyed imo.

Anyway Kanon 2006 is my favorite.

Tough choice between Clannad and Kanon but I'm going with Kanon. Air was OK but I've only watched it one time and was never impulsed to watch it again. I've probably watched both seasons of Clannad twice but I've definitely watched Kanon more. Clannad is definitely more developed and has a bigger repertoire of characters because of its length but in Kanon I think they did a tremendous job expressing the emotions and feelings of all of the characters and portraying it to the audience. I never watched the original Kanon because the art turned me off - I'm talking about the 2006 version. Plus I like Kanon's music slightly better than Clannad's.

The only real thing that bothered me about Kanon that Clannad did better was the handling of arcs. In Kanon, Yuuichi pretty much goes through every arc as he would (minus kissing and sex) in the VN, but kept all the romantic tension completely intact, and so near the end of each one I keep expecting him and the current heroine to end up together. Clannad, on the other hand, managed to keep the romantic entaglements between Nagisa and Tomoya, despite being in other character's arcs.

I do agree on the music. I love Kanon's music.

I voted for Kanon, because I have only seen that and AIR. I only cried at the end of AIR, while I cried several times during Kanon. However, if I had actually seen Clannad by this point I probably would have voted for that after bawling my eyes out. I do prefer my anime dubbed, but I may break down and get the subbed ones, since that is what they are going to do for After Story as well.

All of the choices available are awesome but I voted for Kanon because I love the story and the Snow also Ayu's too cute!

I should go watch After Story again. Mmmmmm nice :)

Kanon 2006 was awesome, I liked it very much, but Ayu didn't seem like the best choice.

AIR made me fucking depressed for a week.

Clannad was a godly masterpiece, my friend tricked me into thinking that after Ushio dies the anime ends, so I brutally prepared myself for that, completely unaware of the end. I was so fucking relieved, and hands down the best visual novel based anime I've ever watched. Hands down. The two animes I would watch again if my anime memory was erased would be Clannad and Code Geass. It's also the only anime that has ever made me tear, and it did it
