What's to like about Ecchi?

Seeing as there are quite a few ecchi series this season, I decided to throw this question out for everybody: What is the appeal of ecchi anime/manga?

I've never been a big fan of the stuff. If I want to pop a boner or jerk off, I'll look at porn, because just cleavage or panty shots or even nipples isn't enough for me. But I don't think people even jerk off to ecchi stuff. Maybe years ago, when porn wasn't everywhere, but nowadays?

Yet there seem to be a ton of fans of ecchi anime and manga. Series like Love Hina Queen's Blade get a lot of attention and love. Is it because they are more than just ecchi? Or are they more than that? If a series has monsters and fights, is it an action series, even if the majority of the focus is on tits and ass? I just don't know, so that's why I'm asking.

Also, if you read or watch something ecchi, do you ever have to look at porn afterwards? You know, because you're hot and want to cum but need something more intense?

Usually I only watch such animes if there's story (if any at all). If I want to jerk off, I come here or go to some other porn/hentai site.

but on a serious note, I think the appeal of ecchi is that it makes you "fantasize" and desire more and more of the anime just to watch the girls...it made a lot more sense in my head

I actually prefer ecchi over hentai. My avatar even, when I edited it up I took out the nipple showing, because in my opinion less clothing isn't always more.

Ecchi anime isn't really ecchi anymore. There's nipples, and even the front sides of vaginas in it now. Now it's just softcore porn.

Ecchi is supposed to be a cock tease, make you wish the shirt would go up an in higher, because it's soo close, but not quite there. It makes you want to see it and makes you desire it. Thus it's more appealing.

It also creates lots of doujinshi, because people will want to take those fantasies out and put them on paper so they can see them.



I think it's just sexier to be unable to see everything.

I don't really like ecchi because more than 10 mins of the show that could be used to advance the plot is being filled with close up tit and ass shots that are soo common here.

Not any better: Ever heard the phrase "leaves a lot to the imagination?" There's is just something appealing of watching beautiful women in erotic scenes, and not having them raped or any other fetishes.

I have jerked off to ecchi, but very few times and usually I'd be going back to an old episode. Very few series go so far, and even fewer for very long.

I personally can't stand shows that are based primarily in the Ecchi genre. There's usually no story and no character depth or growth. Then at the end when the main character is picking from the girls that have inexplicably fallen for him, he never makes a clear decision leaving out any satisfaction whatsoever.

The only appealing aspect is the partial nudity. And that's just a cock tease.
And I've never understood the "leaves more to the imagination" thing. Especially when it pertains to drawn characters. You know it's going to look perfect underneath. It always does. So what's there to imagine?

The only positive thing is that it draws people in. People like sex. They'll check it out if they think there will be sex. And that can cause the person to be led to legitimate anime series.

2) Sometimes the erotic pacing is better than hentai. Kanokon and Kissxsis in particular have a better balance between ero and relief than most Hentai do.

I don't think any ecchi anime has every seriously aroused me. Then again, I sort of went backwards-- watched more hentai before getting serious about anime. So when I saw my first pantyshot or boobgrab in an ecchi anime, it was like "meh."

I watch ecchi for the comedy. I just enjoy watching the indignation of the girls.

A good example of a character like this is that Blonde girl with the monster drill hairstyle from Ladies and Butlers. I find her and her rich girl, snobby attitude and basic ignorance of all things sexual to be delightful.

This. To me, ecchi is just a means to an end, no matter how short-lived. If I wanted to pop a boner, I'd go for hentai, seriously.

I think what we're witnessing here is a change in the anime industry era, where it focuses on catering to the audience as opposed to delivering something solid. Also, there've been quite a couple of reboots of older anime series these past years. The way I look at it, this ecchi is just a fad, and I hope it passes fast because I can't stand shows that have shit for substance.

WHile i still like Ecchi, i don't love it. For example, when i first read TO-Love-Ru the ecchi drew me in. But once i discovered Hentai, the ecchi didn't draw me in as much. I still read it, but i wasn't nearly as in love with it as i once was.

well if you like panties (which I do) then Ecchi is gold...

I should have linked this in my initial post, but this works just as well as Hentai for me. You really don't always need full nudity to activate the same areas of the brain that respond to porn.

You know, I really have no idea why I like ecchi so much. It's probably the comedy that comes with it, but I can't say for certain.

I would say it is the comedy that comes with ecchi. Ecchi by itself is pretty, let's admit it, boring.

Well, in the end whatever it may be ecchi is still awesome to look at.
