Whats your definition of 'generic/repetitive/cliche anime'?

I'm curios what does 'Generic anime' actually means.
My opinion is all those Moe crap with no plot,character development and characters that are way to similiar to other characters.

inside thoughts : poor otakus buying all this generic moe anime crap AND HAREMS!,such a waste of money.....

I say K-On is one of em.

The common ones that have simple stories and added unrealistic events.
Mostly now a days a harem anime is generic. Or an anime with one or 3 guys and alot of girls then some love interest.

Definitely Harems. They have become pretty normal and still something popular in VNs.

As for the moe, I don't think there have been that many enough to call it generic.

I say harems as well, yes. I also say the typical anime where there's a simple male character, living some simple life, in a rut, until some "magical" day when a strange girl appears and suddenly, somehow, changes his life for the better.

Which ever one you choose, I hate them both.

K-ON is definetly not a generic anime, I have no idea how anyone could think that. It may be uneventful, or you may not like the laid back slow pacing, or hell you could even hate each one of the characters, but it is not generic. It was original and has its own unique tone and atmosphere. The characters have a certain chemistry that doesn't exist in every anime. I'm not saying you should like it, but it isn't generic.

Generic is when the characters are stereotypes (like a sterotypical tsundere, or quite shy girl), when the plot is about something that has been done a hundred times without any real deviation, and when the ending is without any real value or substance.

The hundreds of harem, mech, fighting, and sports animes are generic. Not to say you can't have a good anime about these.

TL;DR

If its been done before, and been done better, then it is generic. K-ON doesn't fit into either one of these category whether or not you like it.

K-on, air, clannad, to love ru and one piece/fairy tale... eve though to love ru was a good manga the anime.. meh fair.

More into non mainstream and underground anime/manga/movies

I would love to know what anime did K-ON or clannad copy. What show did what these shows did before either one came out? Was there another show out there that made people cry as much as Clannad did? How can they be generic when they were original?



Such as? and underground? There isn't an anime "scene". All anime takes companies investing in animators, directors, and producers. They are all meant to be watched by as many as people as possible, everything wants to be mainstream. It all shows on Tv, and if it isn't known by at least a sizable amount of people, it couldn't of been very good.

Honestly, it seems like you just picked names of popular shows and decided that because they were well received, they are mainstream and therefore generic.

To love ru is just not very good, I am mildly disturbed to see it mentioned in the same post as Clannad. And whats generic about One Piece? Its got a pretty unique art style , original charterers and story. Theirs nothing generic about it. Unlike, that generic harem show, I'm sorry, I meant To love ru.

These days? Anything. If it's shonen jump it's gonna have upgrades galore with your obvious goal of whats gonna happen and small or large bumps where they get badly beaten stand up magically get stronger or their team has a fight and separates and they come back together.

If it shonen jump isn't it's still gonna be the same thing and have a plot you can tell who the main character is going to beat/love/screw/or kill.

Here are some examples:

To Love-Ru: I think To Love-Ru has potential of becoming a manga/anime that doesn't have him falling in love with just one character and the other just leaves... but that's hoping for too much lol. Let's see where To Love-Ru Darkness is heading.

Amagami SS: has multiple endings but we know how it's gonna end either way... as it should. This is a generic but fun anime.

Iron Man: is one of those really really generic animes. Plot is so dumb that every single bit of it is predictable and is only made for fan base who don't give a damn.

Shinryaku! Ika Musume: An anime with no plot nothing to advance on really. It's just mindless funny stuff. This is something that's not generic.

OreImo: This is purely generic. I mean we know whats gonna happen really... but it has something there that keeps it interesting. I don't know wtf this is. Maybe I'm a pervert for lil sister stuff? It's gonna build character relationships they are gonna hit a bump rebuild bump rebuild bump rebuild happy ending where they stay close together and marry someone they like. Or the novelist can throw us a twist and actually make them an item. If that happens I'll say this isn't generic anymore.

"Moe blobs" (which isn't bad), only started appearing recently, you can't classify them as generic.

generic anime = You can predict The whole thing, by comparing it with another anime.

I love all those animes like Lucky Star and K-on so they dont really get repetitive for me

never said copy... the same plot lines and the cliche dialog and feel.

for the anime... their isn't a real underground scene for the anime part , but meant it for the non mainstream. and popular isn't bad, but these to me is bad.

School stories. You know, there is a group of girl/guy and they living their lifes. Things will happen, like sports festival, student council president election, tests, club activities and all that general crap that happens in japanese schools.

Without a good storyline this kind of anime can get really f*cking booring and annoying.

Shounen fight. There is a weak guy. Everyone makes fun of him, but he keeps fighting like no one. Eventually he makes a name for himself so he can fight stronger opponents and so on and so on.

Harem.

There is a weak guy (again...) with average personality average stength and average EVERYTHING. The ladies are mad about him, they WANT TO BANG THAT GUY. But he refuzes.... *idiot*
The girls fighting over that lucky bastard and offering themselfs to that retard but he's still refuzing. This keeps up in the anime untyl the end when that guy chozes the most annoying/sick/ugly chick from the group and fin.

I understand if you think an anime is bad, however just because an anime is bad that doesn't mean it is generic. Even if the anime follows a set pattern in a genre - take Toradora for example - the fact that it does something different and that it does it BETTER keeps it from being either generic, repetitive, or cliche (all those sorta mean the same anyways...).

Anime always has to follow a certain set up - every form of media does. Even the most creative and unique musician has to make his music still sound like other music in a genre to a certain degree - burping and banging your head on trash cans doesn't count as music no matter how creative or original it is. Anime is much the same, K-ON may feel like Lucky Star, and Clannad may be another High School romance, but they enhance, improve, and bring something new to their genre.
