Why are certain words bolded?

I've been reading a lot of manga recently and yeah some words are bolded and some aren't. Sometimes I just don't understand why some words are bolded, at others its perfectly clear. Is there some rule behind it that me a mere reading wouldn't know of but to translators its clear?

Usually, sentences are bolded like if they are yelled or screamed. I have no idea what is going through that fan-translator's mind when they did that. It looks bad.
