Remember, Fantasy magic always follows a structure. That's why they chant spells. Void seems to be the "Make shit go boom" class of spells, probably used for heavy offense. The familiars, however, receive the runes to a body part, and that part is augmented to over 9000.

Brain girl had head runes, so she is probably psychic and has powerful thinking skills. Saito had it on his dominant(?) hand, and was granted weapon mastery.

Two void users would amount to artillery vs artillery, in terms of what their spells are meant to do.

I'm wondering why Louise doesn't just make another contract with the reborn Saito. Also, when Saito died, wouldn't the runes come off then?
