Bump.
I finally got around to rewatching ZNT Seasons 1-3, and watched Season 4. [size=9]Hooray for Torrenting.[/h]
After Saito gains his second familiar ability and Louise overhears the fact that using his new ability to amplify Void Powers will cause him to die, in S4 Episode 10 she thinks to herself while dancing with Saito "I don't want him to die. Please, don't let anything actually threaten the world". SURPRISE SURPRISE! The next scene, an entire village is up in flames and behind it, an active volcano.
There's something about that that actually made me laugh a little, out loud. Maybe it's the irony, or the fact that I saw it coming?
Didn't expect...
...that the Pope dude would get eaten by that huge fuck off dragon after shattering Derfringer to pieces, and Saito gets sent back to Japan with Louise's World Door spell.
Did anybody also think that...
...when Saito gets sent back to Japan and he was yelling Louise's name and thinking about her, that he sounds like someone that got so engrossed in a dating sim or something similar that he thought it was reality and snapped out of it? You know, one of
those people who take
Escapism to a whole new level.
And why didn't...
...they try to attack the dragon when it was "sleeping"? I mean, it was just a lump of rock. It was shown that it could be safely approached and there was no risk of getting attacked. So why the fuck why didn't they attack it? It was only when it woke up, sprouted wings, flew away and decimated an entire fleet and tried to level the Academy of Magic that they tried doing something again.
At least...
...it was a happy ending, what with Saito and Louise getting married and all, and she stayed a tsundere till the very end. As some people have said, it still left me wanting more, and watching those ending credits where she uses her spell to sightsee Japan with Saito and meeting Saito's unseen parents was awesome. How odd would that look though? A guy in blue clothes that he's been wearing since he arrived in the other world (probably about a year?), stepping out of a portal in the middle of a busy street carrying a girl in strange clothes by our standards, and looking into the portal all you see is a dirt trail and a mansion. I'd fucking shit myself.
And it didn't hit me...
...until the last episode, but Saito's been missing for at least a year from Earth, so his parents must've assumed that he was dead and gave up all hope of ever finding him. How shit-scared out of their minds must his parents be if he just suddenly showed up at the door with a pink-haired girl wearing a weird getup and says "Mum, Dad, this is my wife Louise!" If I were his parents I'd probably have a heart attack. My year-long dead son, suddenly appearing out the blue, married to a girl from another world.
Now, I'm either over-observant or a very picky bastard and I've never realised until just now, but overall I think it was a satisfactory end to the
one anime which I've been obsessed about since discovering it about it a year and a half ago, although it left me wanting more. The ecchi-ness is what appealed to me. I mean come on, Hentrietta fighting Louise naked in a hot spring? HNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG FUCK YES.
