spent $500 on some figures earlier this month... so need to save what little i have left. lol. but i should be fine... the books arent that expensive and we do get that discount.
I know what you mean, just don't get into Dakimakura covers, adds up fast at 15k yen a piece.
At least the yen is almost 120 yen for a dollar, that helps a lot.
Ive been wanting to buy some... but yeah... I imagine it will become a hobby as bad as figure buying... and ill never survive it. lol And i dont even know where to get the
appropriate pillows for it so if anyone knows where to get them, tell me so that i can proceed to my death. lol. Im ok with not surviving >.>
Depends on how much you're willing to spend and also what covers you have. Most covers are 160x50cm these days, so a 160x50cm pillow is typically the best choice, however, there are covers in other sizes, with 150x50cm being the next common size.
So it's typically easier to see which covers you buy before purchasing a pillow, that way you don't buy the pillow first and then find out that all the covers you want are the wrong size.
There are really three options when it comes to pillows:
The cheapest possible, which is just getting a standard body pillow as close in size to the covers you're purchasing as you can. The problem with this approach is most readily available body pillows (Bed Bath and Beyond, WalMart, Target, etc) max out at 140x50cm. This leaves a lot of slack at the bottom of the pillow, making it look terrible and it's pretty uncomfortable to sleep with. If you're in the US, Royalpillow offers custom sizes for ~$20 a pillow and they ship within the US. Their pillows are mediocre in quality, but the price is right for a lot of people and they'll at least fit somewhat well.
The middle option is to buy a low end Japanese dakimakura body. They run about 5000 yen, and can be found pretty easily on AmiAmi or other Japanese retailers with an English site. The problem with this is shipping will run about 6000 yen, since EMS is the only available option for the shipping size required. The pillows are pretty okay, definitely better than any local pillow you've ever used. But if you're that committed, you may as well go for the premium.
The recommended option, if you seriously want to get into this hobby, is the A&J (manufacturer) DHR6000 series. They have the DHR6000 which is 160x50cm and the DHR6001 which is 150x50cm. The pillow retails for about 9000 yen, and isn't sold on any English sites, so you'll have to use a proxy service to purchase it. The 9000 yen + proxy fees (~10%) and shipping, will set you back about 16-20k yen.
But it's absolutely worth it. I've convinced several people to purchase one, and every single person told me it was the best pillow they've ever used. They were all very skeptical of the cost, but once they decided to go through with it, there haven't been any regrets. It fits covers exceptionally well, since it's designed for them (
the Wani covers that Fakku will eventually be selling are manufactured by A&J as well.) It's incredibly soft, but very resilient when pressure is applied; as soon as you remove pressure from the pillow, it immediately springs back into shape. I only own one at the moment, but plan on buying a few more when I have the chance.
If you're serious about getting into the hobby and want to pick up a body, feel free to shoot me a PM and I can discuss the options with you further and shoot you some links to where you can buy whichever you decide on.
