Do they enforce age restrictions on buying 18+ things?
Nope, never. It's actually rare for Japanese to ask for ID.

How long are the lines? (I'm probably going their by 6-8 in the morning, or on the first train like a hardcore otaku)
Actually the most hardcore camp there overnight; I'm not sure how they have the stamina to attend after that...
This is what I saw when I got there at 9 AM but it's actually pretty fast compared to events of that size. Though for the lines of the circles inside; don't wait for the ones located on the outer walls, they are popular enough to pick up their works in Akihabara right after the event.

Should I buy one of those catalogs?
Download the electronic copy the moment it is uploaded (two weeks before) and start planning! You can buy one of the physical catalogs when you get there but be sure to start planning the moment that CD is up!

How does mail ordering work? (Planning to do this for Fuyucomi, since I am going to miss it)(I can have the stuff shipped to my relatives house in tokyo)
If they are sold at stores like Toranoana or Melon Books, then you can just buy them and have them shipped to your relatives. Sadly, anything that's only sold at the event is outside of your grasp unless you can get a friend to buy it.
