I went to an anime convention last weekend. Before it all started, I looked at the schedule and saw several things that looked really good, including an event where people dressed up in sexy cosplay. I didn't go to those events because the lines to them were so fucking long that they actually went outside. That happened with just about every big event of the convention.
Well, fellow con-goers, what do you do when something cool has a horrible line?
Every year, my local convention has a cosplay contest. Four years ago, I waited in line for over an hour to get shitty seats to it. The past three years, there's no way in hell you could get me to do that again. It wasn't worth it. Hell, nothing's worth waiting in line for an hour. Even if you have friends with you, it's still just standing around with a bunch of people. Any conversation you have with your friends is interrupted by the conversations of the people around you, or you can't hear each other because of all the other people. Plus, just talking at an anime convention isn't really fun. You want to be doing something.
And of course, if you forgo the line and jump into the room after it starts, then you get seats in the back (if those are even available), and if you're blind like me, that means you might as well not be there. So, what do you do? You either stand in line forever or skip the event.
This year, I skipped the events. Fuck lines. Especially when the end of the line is out the fucking door, and it's cold (or raining).
Does anyone share my grief, as well as my perplexity as to what to do if one wants to see an event without standing in line for hours and missing other stuff going on?
