Well then, I've returned for Day 1 of Anime Expo (AX) and I am happy and sad, first I'll start out by saying that I didn't get there till 4pm, I was waiting for Mizukiri (a friend) who ended up not going with me,I just picked up his badge, thou walking around I meet other ppl I knew for my local anime hangouts so I found some ppl to talk to ^_^
Now upon finally getting my badge I began to wander the dealer hall and gaze at all the things my income won't allow, like a dog staring at mountains of meat, juicy and tender-but alas he is leashed and kept 10 yards away and even with all his strength he can't budge an inch further, thou on Day 3 that may change ^_^
I continued looking taking notes of what goes where, then entered the Mangagamer.com booth, (it was the one surrounded by ecchi tapestries and posters) and sometimes they were checking id's so obviously you can tell what lay inside, I bought 1 thing, other than that I looked and liked what I saw, lots of Shin Koihime Musou items as well as Navel, maybe Saturday I'll get moar, if ur wondering what I got....
After the dealer hall closed I just strolled around taking a few pics of cosplayers nothing really stood out that much, thou I limit my pic taking on first day always. I then proceeded to wait for the JAST USA PC Dating Sim Industry Panel.
Now while waiting I saw about 4-6 other ppl in hen-tie shirts, that made me very happy, some even asked about whether they could be obtained at the convention, sadly no, I even managed to possibly convince a FAKKU leecher to register and post some, so i'll be watching meet and greet section frequently for a while nano desu ^_^
The Panel went very well, with the emcee unable to got 1 min without making some type of innuendo, I mean c'mon, ur discussing H-games, and to mention ur booth in the dealer hall by saying, "come early and come frequently," what'd u expect, none the less the mentioned many things....
Some may already know about Cosplay Fetish Academy and how it's been translated by them, I could have bought a copy if I wanted to ^_^ They also mentioned that Family Project is just about ready for release, thou I remember them stating that they picked it up 2 years ago, wow such a long wait.... and they also had bad news, that progress on Cleavage would be frozen till certain criteria are met I could go into details, but I choose not to right now.
Thou the best news was that JAST has picked up the rights to translate and release games from the great company Nitro+ !!! There first 2 releases slated for early-mid 2010 will be Demondane, and Jingai Makyou. I even won a free prize I got lucky nano desu ^_^
Afterwards I began talking with some ppl who actually run another anime site and assumed I was a press member judging from my amount of info on games and current events and that I am holding a notepad and pen lol,(that would be nice thou, FAKKU Press... lol) thou we had a nice chat and then I called it a day, I am going to sleep soon, I am leaving for Day 2 at around 8am nano desu ^_^
DAY 2
Spoiler:
Well today started a lot earlier than yesterday me and my buddy Mizu left around 8am and their was hardly any traffic so it was a quick drive, and we met up with another friend, thou he doesn’t visit the site at all, even thou I tell him to almost every time I can. Well, we were deciding what we wanted to do and see, and I already had plans so I let Mizu and my friend go visit the Dealer Hall while I went to some panels.
Now I planned to see Toshimichi Mori and Daisuke Ishiwatari’s panel so I went early to the hall they would be in, and the previous one was still going on so I stayed and watched that one, it was the Bandai Entertainment panel, they were just mentioned the usual stuff, new DVD/Manga volumes of current titles there working on, they said we can expect Subbed box sets of True Tears and Sola as well as others, the only new thing they mentioned was that thru Fathom Events, on Sept. 24 this year, they would be screening the theatrical movie Erueka Seven: Pocket Full of Rainbows (-good night, sleep tight, young lovers-), which being a fan of the series I am more than happy the hear, thou as each year goes by I find myself more and more upset with my fellow otaku brethren. I mean no one seems really happy about these titles, has the enthusiasm literally been sucked dry from them after only 24 hours, I pray not because if so I dread what tomorrow may hold in store. Eventually the panel came to a close and instead of bothering to try to gain a free Bandai T-shirt I moved closer for a better seat for the next panel, as did many others.
Toshimichi Mori and Daisuke Ishiwatari Panel
Well for those not aware of these two Daisuke Ishiwatari can be called the father of Guilty Gear, having created it, designing characters, storyline, and writing the music for Guilty Gear and Blazblue which was designed by Toshimichi Mori as well as Yuuki Katou. The panel was all devoted to Q and A, while I wrote most of the questions and responses, thou I’ll only be mentioning a few….
1. Well this question that stood out was mention very quickly, yep you guessed it Bridget.
Ishiwatari said that, since Guilty Gear was something new that they didn’t yet have a “cute character,” that they needed one, but he wanted something ”unconventional”.
2. Concerning Blazblue there was a question that after looking at some of the characters, was this game intended to be aimed at a female audience more than a male one.
Mori replied that yes woman would find this game interesting, but I am not sure whether he gave a definite answer regarding that, he never said yes it was planned that way, so perhaps, or at least that’s what I heard.
3. Concerning Blazlue’s music, what was the inspiration?
Ishiwatari said that he wanted something that would be contrast to Guilty Gear, and wanted to have classical and jazz elements.
4. Of course who are Ishiwatari’s and Mori’s favorite characters?
Now anyone that knows Ishiwatari, know that he provided game voice for Sol Badguy, thus he is his favorite, and he mentioned that since they’re “all my children” it’d be hard to pick just 1 but if he had to others would be, Dizzy and from Blazblue, Noel. Mori’s favorites, Guitly Gear’s Jam *I am sorry I missed who was his favorite in Blazblue*
5. Ishiwatari’s favorite piece of music?
Really this is a simple answer for fans, “Still in the Dark”
There were a few more questions, but I’ve already mentioned more than enough, anyways, the panel ended they announced that the autograph session would follow, I wasn’t that far in the line thou they only had 30 minutes, so I got cut off, I guess I’ll try again tomorrow, thou it was so much trouble, they really need to organize this more efficiently, I mean we went from waiting in 1 long line, to moving in groups and waiting in 10-15 ppl lines, then stuffed into a room of 30+ sitting down waiting, something doesn’t add up here nano desu. So we get denied, and I met up with my friends in the Exhibit Hall, yes I visited the Mangagamer.com booth, and I will probably do so again tomorrow ^_^ some more browsing, a few purchases and I finally meet up with Vesper and Bushido…but no Katsucha T_T we spend some time in the Table Top Gaming Room, me and a friend playing Lycee and the rest of the guys chatting, we managed to attract a few ppl, they seemed quite interested, some took a few pics, and we found another guy with a deck on him, I am definitely going back with all my rares for trading ^_^
So time went by fast and before we knew it the time was upon us, we (me and my two friends, Vesper and Bushido) made are way to the proposed meeting place only to be left in defeat, after waiting so long we only meet with Palmas and Kylaran, so after some talk we called the meet up a bust, seeing as some of us had other things to do (don’t take that as offensive okay guys) so with that me and Mizukiri just called it a day, tomorrow will be the day I buy figures and whatever else I want ^_^
Here's what I managed to get today
So another day concluded nano desu, oh but what is this I come home and there’s a box! Huh? It’s here! Why yes it is! My Kud-chan pillowcase!!!!!!!
DAY 3
Well, there are some defeats more triumphant than victories, and indeed my wallet lost, and in conjunction with that my spirit has been shattered, no longer am I in high spirits, no longer did I feel excited at AX. Of all my years of attending Anime Expo’s for the past few years there is a feeling of complacency – what I mean is that there were many moments where I was happy, as well as sadden, and at the some times I experienced both. If you asked me why, simple, nothing caught my interests enough…..
The day began late actually thou, I was woken by a distressed Mizu who was telling me it was an hour past the arranged time for me to pick him up, so I hurried without eating or drinking, changed and drove over to get him. So we arrived at around 11am, and we went to the exhibit hall where shortly after Mizu meet a friend and I choose to head over to the arcade room to see Katsucha and Bushido, noon came around and it was Katsucha!!! ^_^ *sorry again katsucha but it’s so fun writing this* I attempted to give katsucha a hug, this angered Kazu and punches to the shoulder where imminent. We were wondering where Bushido was and I had to meet a fellow Lycee player to conduct some trades with, so we progressed toward the table top room, there I obtained my 3rd Rena card, and we then met up with Bushido who had no idea where we were. After that, to the exhibit hall we go!
Wow, my cell phone battery was dieing on me while in the hall, so I was stuck having to stay with Bushido, who’s mind would wander Gundam booth to Gundam both like Forest Gump watching a feather hovering in the air *no offense man okay* he got quite a haul today I wonder if he’ll post it all. Bushido then let me take the lead as we went to make MY purchases, I’ll post thou pictures at the end of this update. We did actually bump into Palmas on two different occasions while in there, looks like us FAKKU guys do indeed think alike. Of course the exhibit hall was great, where else can I obtain so many different items and at reasonable prices? Also sometimes bumping into random people can help - you never know when someone may mention where something you like can be found. I made sure that, each day…. I went to the exhibit hall. Now I do regret not getting two other figures but 1 one them could wait and the other I haven’t finished watching her series, no I will not reveal who they are, but I did have fun teasing katsucha over a Corti figure unknown to em for the whole convention, *I am gonna get hurt for this now huh katsucha* So now we meet up with Mizu, and katsucha and bushido left, bushido had a panel to attend while katsucha probably didn’t wanna be around me T_T
After that nothing else really caught my attention, many of the panels that the have year to year - are more focused towards the new age otaku, or first time conventioneers who are new to the setting, and for us †˜old fogies,’ there really isn’t that much unless who have a specific niche that you fill, however I do not, I prefer to see myself as a man who watches many and almost all genres of anime/manga etc. and it’s rather difficult to find something to accommodate to my needs.
So with just me and Mizu we were able to discuss are disappointment in this years convention, now for others, maybe some of you reading this, you may not understand where were coming from, we’ve had the privilege to attend these convention due to there close location, and we truly are grateful, however with the types of fans that this †˜new generation’ is adding, it does concern us, and as each day passes the enthusiasm does fade away as I mentioned before. This is the proverbial Banana Split Chocolate Sundae, after Day 1 the cherry, sprinkles, and whip cream are all gone, now all that remains is the ice cream and banana, and as sweet and tasty as those are, they can’t replicate the sensations I got from that top layer, it’s just impossible, what I need is more put on top, or maybe more placed again, something to keep me interested. Or else it’ll leave me with a sense of defeat even thou it tasted so good. Now I could just be exaggerating this, but from my point of view the only people who were really enjoying this years convention were the new people, which isn’t how it should be.
I wanted to stay around till the panel later that evening about Bishoujo games, but something tells me they wouldn’t address any particular issues that I am interested about, if you want my opinion this whole loli thing will blow over after time, and there really is not much to worry about, it will take time, but I believe everything will work out fine.
Anyway here’s what I got today…
*not pictured, some more posters of Circus artwork DaCapo, Princess Party etc.*
yes i got another one
Spoiler:
only these 5, I am really glad I found anything xenogears related ^_^
Spoiler:
I'll post pics of front and back of the particular object in the middle later
Spoiler:
been waiting a while to get these nano desu
Spoiler:
and with that, it all ends, I have a tendency to not attend the last day, due to the fact that there isn't much, so ends my days and Anime Expo.
Very nice spalose, you got to see some interesting things and you won a free puzzle (a very interesting puzzle at that). Spalose you should wear a shirt tomorrow that says "Fear My Loli Buster Nano Desu!". If that doesn't work then say the motto of your sig around everyone so they know your loli power.
That might not be a bad idea Spalose, writing reviews about eroge. It's up to you though. So the big or not so big fakku meet up will be tomorrow? Can't wait hear all about it.
Looks like you had an awesome time and that's only from Day 1, wonder what'll happen for Day 2 as well as any goodies ^^. Lol and I thought the Fakku Press idea was a pretty cool idea, bring it up in the feedback/suggestions section and see what happens if you want. Wish I could go to a convention, but sadly traveling around the country ain't gonna fit into my salary, except NDK right next door to me in Colorado but we'll see. Anyways looking forward to more good news.
I was actually thinking of attending MangaGamer's panel on the future trends in bishoujo games on Saturday evening. Especially because I'm particularly interested in the state of the industry considering the current economy and the new limitations on eroge companies released by EOCS.
I wanna see some moar photos to see what made you slobber like crazy. (I would too if I was at an anime convention...) Good to know that many people know of FAKKU! Our sphere of influence is taking over the world one by one.
@Kylaran: you should. I'm also interested in the future of eroge industry, since I feel that this will eventually have repercussions on the whole of hentai industry.
lol spalose called me soon after i got home like at 4pm i was going to return to the convention around 6 but my legs were dead from 4 hours of line waiting xD i was there from 9am to like about3:40-4PM ill be waering my hentai shirt and a naruto head band but ill be there like around 10-11am for thouse who have my # hit me up text or watever!

spalose, I love you forever.
Also, of course Noel is Ishiwatari's favorite, she's the best thing ever.
I am saddened by the fact that I chose this year not to go to AX, when Daisuke Ishiwatari was there D:
EDIT: And take pics when all of you FAKKUers are in one spot :D
I went to the bishoujo game panel. You're right in that they didn't address anything - in fact, much of it was about mangagamer and their localization of upcoming products. However, when I did get out of that panel was yozuca*'s autograph! For those of you who don't know her, she's sung multiple songs for Circus (especially the Da Capo franchise). I also got signatures from the music coordinator for Circus, and one of the artists for Da Capo (although she was selling autographed copies earlier).
Definitely worth it in the end. For those of you who might be interested in anime and manga at an academic level, I went to numerous panels discussing the state of otaku academia and studies, and I'll be (maybe) meeting up with someone who's been studying anime/manga in the U.S. for a while now later today (Sunday).
