Downloads, and the front page format update.

Was just informed that downloads will return shortly, you can thank Jacob for his hard work on the server migration. The update should be up by the end of next week, baring any miscalculations or disasters.

I'd also like to hear your feedback on the new "blog" style Fakku front page. If you don't read the front page go take a look now and come back with your impressions. Your opinions will carry some weight in whether we keep it or change to something else. We wont return to the old system but we are open to suggestions.

About the layout:
It's nice, since it focuses on the *core* feature of the site, hentai manga & doujinshi, no complaints on that front.

However the current setup makes it harder to browse community news and there's no longer a link to check older updates & news bulletins.

With wide-screen monitors becoming the norm, IMHO it'd be better to switch to a two-column setup, 2/3 - releases & 1/3 - news, as news bulletins are rarer and rarely actually need the same screen-space as releases. Hmm... Maybe the featured posts & news items should be merged into one entity.

Put these into a full-width division, and you have ready-made layout to post 100-width (or "full page"), advertisements for major partners or community events.

About the server migration:
Excellent job! Downtime has been short, almost everything everything seems to be working... if I didn't know any better, I'd think there's a professional *plan* behind all of this.

(Hope search gets fixed before we have another influx of clueless users flooding the forums).

I've grown to like the new layout. Was neutral to it at first.

My only complaint is that now we can't see older FPNs anymore.

Finally. It's about time for that. Also, I hope by migrating server we don't need to have server crash or rollback anymore (I'll keep my fingers crossed on this).

The blog-style front page is nice, but it eliminated one of my favorite features: "see all recent content", not just separated into Manga and Doujinshi "recent content" on their respective pages.

I like the new change. It pretty much does show the site well.

As for downloads, w00t.

I like the new front page design. Right away I can see if the things that I look for on the front page are there (namely new uploads).
Also having all the news right there below the poll is nice as well.

I'm glad the downloads are coming back soon. I may not have used them all that much before, but that's gonna change.

Any other feedback? The more we get, the better we can make things.

I personally have gown fond of the new layout, it's a little easier on the eyes in my opinion, at least compared to the old version. Mind you, i wouldn't mind seeing a little box with popular/recent topics. Would save me time browsing the forums. But that is a mere preference i have acquired from other forums.

If there was anything I'd want changed on the current front page it would be to make the featured posts section a bit larger.

As in "wider" so it's more legible or "longer", as in showing more items?

I actually like the newer format, gives a bit more information as to what manga or doujinshi is new. Only suggestion I have is that it would be great you put something back at the bottom of the front page to see the older posts.

I like your 'split to take advantage of the widescreen' idea. along those lines, i think the manga updates, and the articles, should each have their own columns. leave the far right column and the articles the same width, but cut the manga updates width in half. the mangas on the front page could have a slightly different layout to accomidate the narrower format. only one thumbnail image(cover), and slightly less info(remove tags and discription). leave only title(allow two lines of text for the longer ones), language, translator, series, and artist.

as for the arranging of the columns, maybe have the articles in the center, and the manga on one side, and the poll/featured posts on the other.





For net noobs, and lazy bums like me, the link was easier and more intuitive.


as for the server/upload/migration/etc., i don't download, so i have no opinion. i do however acknowledge and salute the work and effort required.

I've pretty much gotten used to the new layout, I'd even say I like it, though I do somewhat miss the fact that the front page doesn't show what users are online, and such, though that's been gone for some time now.

As for the downloads returning, I am happy for it, even though I mostly read everything online
