Idea to improve forum posting

Would it be possible to make a way that people posting in the forums could comment on a specific person's reply in a post and so that people who reply to posts in the forums could receive an email when someone responds to there reply specifically. I ask because if I reply to a post and someone says something regarding my post I have to follow the entire article and that's a lot of emails I get which may not pertain to what I said. So basically what I mean is also allow people to comment on specific replies and to receive an email when someone does. I hope I am being clear. I think it would really help forum discussions.

The quote system, as it is now, is very simple and easy to handle.
But though the idea is nice, I cannot really see it working well. Often people quote small fractions of other peoples statements and/or multiple people. I would be to much work to have to specify who needs to get a mail every time you quote someone.
