Suggestion. Interact with notifications to make them "read"

I lose a lot of notifications to my browser crashing the notification page. Just entering the notification page makes everything as "read" and the archive for read notifications seems to be short. The solution would be to make it so they don't become "read" before you either enter them or click a button beside them to mark them read.

I've got the habit of checking all the replies to my comments, because I think if somebody commented on one of my pretty bad jokes he deserves to get an even worse joke as response. But if I have 50+ notifications after not checking fakku for a day and look at the notifications it often happens that the browser crashes or the page doesn't load and only the last ten-ish notifications show up - and somebody doesn't get his bad pun response....

If at all, make this optional. I very much like the current behavior when I only need to open the notifications page to mark the usual quote notifications read.
