I would like to be another voice calling for the return of the Cover images in the recent manga area. I do like the rest of the changes though feels neater.
Thank You
if you don't mind the rudeness, what happened to the tag system that was clamored for a few months back when we were asked for changes we wanted to see?
also, i liked having images of the latest manga. perhaps a hybrid?
I was wondering why certain aspects of the site weren't working. The changes explain it in the interim.
In any case, I am and have always been a fan of 'less is more'. Granted the manga covers help to draw the reader, I really rather like it better this way. It helps load time of the main page, too. Things like that tend to count for a lot in user experience. My load time for the main page is already better by a good two seconds, which is not a lot considering my connection speed is already decent. But I think users with lower quality connections will find that it makes a more noticeable difference.
Change, though it may seem out of the ordinary, can sometimes turn out to be for the better in the end. Just because you got used to the previous style of the site, doesn't mean you can't get used to this one as well. It may just take some time is all.
I myself knowing quite a few of the artists and rather acclaimed titles enjoy the new style. But, as many have already stated, it may not be the best idea.
The majority of people can, naturally, relate to "visuals" (specifically illustrations) rather than text and it may be a good idea to go back to the old style, however a merger of the two would also work out great. Text is a visual in itself mind you, however it's many small images versus one big picture. So if you're aiming it at a market that only browses the site for a short time, you may want to very well want to stick with a large image as it reduces the time people take to decide which Manga/Doujin they want to view.
If you want people to browse the site for a few extra seconds, taking their time to think, I would suggest sticking or improving what you've done. But if you're looking for pure convenience (which can some times lead to the growth of a website) then I would suggest sticking with what you had before, of course, you can still improve it.
Just throwing a little bit of experience as a former advertisement designer out there. It was my job to know how these things will affect certain groups; but, as you have the capability and resources to do so, it's better for you to research and decide yourself what the people want.
I would be a bit disappointed however if it did go back to the old style as I'm sure this adds more space for more than just a few Doujin/Manga titles to be viewed which is what I enjoy the most at the current moment.
