Assuming I'm correct and your using PS to refer to Photoshop, then you would be guessing that I photoshoped my pumpkin rather than actually carving it? If this is the case then I wish I could use Photoshop that well, but my artistic skills don't go that far.
I did use Photoshop to trace over the original image I intended to carve and make a mock-up in the appropriate colors before I started carving. This allowed me to experiment with which areas would and wouldn't be carved out before I started carving and would be unable to change my mind. I've included pictures below of the original image, my mock-up, the original drawing on the pumpkin, as well as the carved pumpkin unlit.
All my pumpkins were carved using the above method and I can only take credit for my patience in the transferring and carving of the original source images.
