It's rare for Japanese companies to make an effort to share their material with people outside of Japan, so whenever one does I try to do everything I can to help make it a success (especially when it's something awesome). Wanimagazine has just released the first issue of Wani-bites, a digital manga magazine that brings together some really awesome artists from Japan. The first issue contains manga from Shin Nagasawa, Hitori, Yusuke Kozaki, Vofan, Shihou, Atsushi Suzumi and Takamichi. And they released it for free on iBooks, which means you can read the whole thing without paying anything.
There are also features in Wani-bites showing the work methods of some of the artists and the process of making a manga. This will be the first time many of these manga, which have cult status in Japan, have been translated into English and made available to an international audience. I really hope they do more things like this, so I encourage everyone to watch the video below and check out Wani-bites on iTunes. It's pretty crazy that a Japanese company released something for free specifically for an international audience. Let them know what you think and what you'd like to see in the next issue, they are listening!
I really liked Sky Blue Cavalry and Bloody Little Circus, which were your favorites?
Oh damn I think you're right, I read it through iBooks on my iPad. That stinks if it's not available on iPhones :( It should work on any computer that has iBooks installed.
This just too damn to be real...
good thing it's digital :3 japan impresses me every single year with these little bit of awesome. I wonder how can this possibly get any better?
you said japanese artists, but there was one that wasn't japanese on your list. vofan is a college art teacher/illustrator. he just takes accept illustration job offers in japan, he's not physically there.
Oh, yay. A art mag-release only available on one platform.
Brilliant....
I seriously would've absolutely loved to see it, but unless the images are released for a different medium, it's almost like it never left Japan for me and anyone else without an iPad.
