Ok, I might be a bit paranoid here, but I wanted to see if anyone else ran into this. I work IT, so I'm
EXCESSIVELY paranoid about what I install on my computer and usually run every installer through multiple Antivirus engines as well as services such as
VirusTotal and
Hybrid Engine which run the same file or URL sample against every AV engine out there. I'll cut the preamble, but point is, I ran the Love Cubed demo .exe file through my native AV and it came up clean, then the reputation checker as well, no red flags. Then ran it through Virus Total and it too came back clean. I then ran it through the Hybrid Engine, and it found some disturbing things.
Here is what result I got, and it's a bit disturbing, especially when it flags as "55/100 suspicious". To be safe and to check for possible indicators of a false flag, I did run a few other launchers through the same analyses to see if any other red flags popped up.
Katawa Shoujo,
SWTOR,
Tom Clancy's The Division,
HuniePop (the NSFW download from Humble Store), and
Warhammer 40k: Space Marine. I linked each result for reference.
Some weren't all that surprising. The one that had the outright most indicators was SWTOR, but that's almost to be expected with a launcher for an MMO. The others were pretty clean for the most part. I don't know, what do you think? But back to the original reason I'm posting here, Love Cubed. Two of the biggest red flags personally are the "hooking" into to UAC privilege escalation (basically prompting to run as a system admin), and the email collection flag.
Do you think I'm paranoid and these are just false flags or are any of the flags that are reported in the report valid?
