I've never used GameMaker Studio but it looks like you probably don't need to know that much programming to use it -- but it does require at least some proficiency with scripting. I think you'll be fine if you learn what functions do what, but then again this is me just eyeballing your screenshot.

I think a bit of brainless entertainment is alright but as long as the brainless humor isn't being shoved down my throat and trying to pretend that it isn't brainless.

Well to be honest I was mulling over how I'd write that for a while and am not exactly 100% happy with the end result, but I am glad that you and many others enjoyed it.
