What would you recommend as a decent VN? I liked all of F/S N's routes (granted fate being the weakest and UBW being my favorite), but you seem to have a grasp on what makes a good VN. So I'd like to know your opinion.
No VN is perfect, but there are some ones I recommend more than others. Despite its flaws, F/SN is a good 'starter VN' and I often recommend it to people starting out. Also on that list is Katawa Shoujo, which I consider the best starter VN, bar-none (because it's incredibly user-friendly and the choices have fairly realistic consequences).
As for something you'd like if you've already played a few VNs and wants something amazing, G-Senjou no Maou is my favorite VN of all time. The plot is intriguing but not too convoluted, the characters are given ample development, the pacing is fairly consistent, and the endings will literally make you cry. The music score is damn good, too.
Also, there are lots of mind fucks and mysteries to solve - it's a highly intellectual game that you can play several times and still miss things, but it clearly demonstrates everything important to the plot in a way that's easy enough to understand that you won't be super confused, either.
It's by no means the perfect VN, as such a thing doesn't exist, but it has good scripting with little to no errors and the translations are generally good. The premise isn't too ridiculous to cope with and there aren't any
critical plot holes, though some minor ones exist and can be found if you watch carefully for them.
As for others I've played, here's a list but in no particular order but I've bolded the ones that I played multiple times, to give you an idea about which ones I preferred:
Fate/Hollow Ataraxia
Fate/Stay NightHeaven's Feel Route
Steins;Gate
Symphonic Rain
Kara no Shoujo
Eien no Aselia
Hoshizora no Memoria
Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no shoujo
Shinken de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai!
