Do you guys remember the good old days of gaming? The days back when you bought a new game, and then you got home and were super excited to play it. You put the game in the system and then bam, it just worked. You started playing and enjoyed yourself.

I have owned a PS4 for three months. Have gotten 8 different games for it. I go buy the games, come home, get super excited to play them, put the game in the system, and guess what? The PS4 says some shit like "Now downloading 20gb of data, estimated time of completion: tomorrow"

How the fuck did this become a thing? Honestly, why the hell do you put the dam games on discs if I just have to download a shit ton of data to play them? Is this some kind of passive agressive way to say "We hate making physical media for games so we are going to make you hate them too. Just buy the digital versions"

One of the games I bought was Dragon Age Inquisition. That game made me download fifty fucking gigabytes. Fifty! As in a five and a zero. Why in the hell am I downloading what is likely the entire size of the whole game when I have the fucking disk!? Is the disk just a useless hunk of plastic? Can I go play frisbee with it? I paid ten dollars for that game, do you know what has the potential to cost me more then ten dollars? Paying for the extra fucking bandwidth to download 50gb of data at once.

This honestly kind of dissuades me from buying new games. I hate that this is the norm now, It really grinds my gears.

Generally it's bug fixes. Like when you bought a PS1 game for example and you always found weird graphical errors certain events would freeze the game sometime etc.
They release these patches to iron those out so you can play the game more smoothly/
Sometimes I'm patient with it but many a times when I had my PS3 I got annoyed when I sat down to play a new game and had to wait 15-20 minutes for an update. My net speed isn't fantastic.
I can see both sides to it though, since it isn't going to change.
If I get a new game I pop it in straight away just to see if it has any updates so it'll be ready when I do want to play it.

These aren't small fixes. Like I said with my dragon age game, 50gb. That is waaaaaaay more then just bug fixes.

Well I don't know what all of the updates are but I know at least some of it is fixes.
Down side is in the good old days bugs could be exploited for some fun and certain accidental things were left in for you to find.

I would still rather have it where I can just play instantly.

Just the option of updating.
