Can somebody please give me a condensed summary of how and what and who and where and when of the Fates series and how they're connected?

Shit's getting worse than the Marvel universe, and that stuff's been around since WW2.

Might be easier to explain the effect of Operation Downfall on WW2 vs the fat man and little boy with in japan and history.

So it's like this:

There is a multiverse like space called the "Nasuverse", and that contains all the series that are connected in some way, whether minor or major... Fate, Melty Blood, Tsukihime, Kara no Kyoukai, etc.

Out of those, the Fates portion of that chunk of the Nasuverse has several universes of its own. Other series have maybe 2-3 at best, but Fates has over 10 different series universes, last time I checked.

TL;DR So, think of it like a multiverse and you'll have a less difficult time wrapping your mind around it.

It is still pretty ridiculous these days though.

Mostly due to how it's being merchandised.

Illyasviel is the only true choice. Rin is fine. Rest is shit waifu.

Only the Fate/Zero versions, though.

Saber ruins everything she touches. Magical girl yuri loli is better.

Therein lies my concern- waifus.

As I still keep the waifu game on life support alive, I need to know how to handle multidimensional versions of characters.

As a Fate addict, I can tell you one thing - Just use the version from that series. All series' have variations, so multiple waifu from separate world lines is no surprise.

Otherwise, you'll have to limit people to 1 incarnation of a character that exists across multiple universes with drastically different stories and casts.

However, there are a few universes tied directly to each other by having the same timeline. The best example of this is Fate/Zero, Fate/Stay Night, etc.

Plenty of other magical girls that are better suited for such pleasures.

In my version of the game each girl could only be claimed once, regardless of multiverse; makes it much more simple. I placed myself in the shoes of a user who made the first claim of someone like Saber, it would be bullshit to me that another user could come along and just say "I want Saber from timeline X" just to get around being second place. Your game now so do what you will.
