Gubi is slightly above the average and has access to ressources where he can learn.
I know smart, I've seen smart and I ain't it. One of my friends is working in the research department of a big French university, he's the smart one. And you know what he tells me? "I'm the smallest fish in the pond over there."
Which is at the same time depressing and exciting to know that there are really amazing people out there.

I'm just trying to say I'm not particularly smart. I just had or was given opportunities and I took them or was pushed to take them.
