No bookstores around here, and how many hours can you waste in a coffee shop? It'd need to be 4-5 for me.
I find I can always have people to talk to in a coffeeshop. Starting with the sort of "what would you recommend here" discussion and going on from there. Plus, if you have a laptop, just having a different place to use a computer is an nice change.

People are also tight in the UK now. Won't speak to strangers. I've tried it, honestly. You just get ignored or insulted. I think the the immigration problem has to do with it.
I don't talk to people I don't know now. There's just no point.
