The XB1 and PS4 were made to be cheap. They are already out of date by design.
And the "more powerful version" just makes me laugh. Its like 8th gen died and 9th began.

I have the regular slim, need to get it sorted for niece and nephews, gonna keep me as master user and make sub accounts for them.
any recommendations for PS4.

Those are still quite powerful these days. But do have more room for cooling than the more compact consoles.

Those are still quite powerful these days. But do have more room for cooling than the more compact consoles.
they are, for 300 it is good machine as it can do 1080p @60fps or upscaled 4k at 30fps, don't think you will be able to build a PC that can do that for £300

but if you where to build one with 2017 parts, your case, mobo, cpu and gpu will come in around that price, but if you where to buy a older per build then it may have the power.
