It had just for some reason given my external HDs priority in the boot order, so it tried to boot from one of them and obviously didn't find the OS. Easily fixed and no actual problem with any hardware or the OS itself.

Indeed. And it did this twice with Windows updates, while it has never had trouble restarting otherwise. There should be no way for such updates to affect BIOS settings, though...
