I think some boys arent that simple though._.sometimes a girl/boy can approach another and talk for ages, connect and when you think they are definitely interested in you more than a friend they turn around and say they have a partner already x.x
I guess for boys though generally they are the ones who do the approaching since they would feel it is more of their role of initiating conversations, but it really depends if the person is open or shy @.@ Extroverted people would probably approach more people to talk to and be connected while not liking them in more than a friend way, while Introverted people might need to summon more courage to speak to someone...so maybe the chances of them actually liking you is better @.@
Not to forget there are lots of the tsudere guys out there too who give the cold shoulder when they actually like you. Then again those guys might seem more 'badass' and give off a different type of attraction? Nice guys can get boring too! Guys are complicated!!!
Maybe in the end you just have to know the guy better and see if they speak the same way to you as everyone else, but even then since the question raised was for an online setting it would be hard to pick up unless you internet stalk them x.x

Sora, I do not think having a partner prevents humans from falling for another person. There are also others who use this fact to reassure themselves theyre not doing anything bad - even if deep within, their true intentions are... I am not saying it is a bad thing, what im suggesting is just that its a possibility.

I guess ur right they can have feelings for the other person but not engage in more since they have a partner already..but then it becomes like a love triangle thing and things usually just gets messy from there @.@ I was more just trying to highlight that it is still difficult to spot a boys intentions even if they are the ones who approach you or are super friendly to you ._.
