Can someone explain to me what eggs and bunnies have to do with Easter?
Short story, Both are symbolic of life and re-birth. When Christainty spread throughout the Roman empire, it was easier to let pagan religions keep their traditions then for the church to be a bunch of kill joys and say they had to stop or they were going to hell. Also they didn't really have any way to explain to them the christain foundations in areas away from rome like Hispania or British isle because the bible was only allowed to be printed in Latin and these people never read a bible since they never learned how to read latin. PLUS even masses were held in latin. So the locals really had no idea why they show have to stop their harmless tradtions.
SOOOoooo... The church basically said "Eh... it isn't hurting anyone and it kinda brings festivity to the time so whatever - it isn't worth the trouble to stop them." Thus traditions continue to this day.
Specific traditions can be traced way back but as for why we do silly things like look for eggs dropped by bunnies on a religious holiday, that is why.
