I tried once with Hayate Ayasaki from Hayate no Gotoku, but I didn't find a wig in time, so I just have a Butler outfit sitting in my room.
The big issue I have currently is that the character I wanna cosplay as would require some kind of custom made stuff, since it doesn't exist as a premade set. I wanted to do a genderswapped version of a KanColle character, lol.
Haruka is best MC. She's motivating, but not over the top. It's actually why I cringe when people compare her to Honoka from LL!. And oh yeah, I'm also clumsy! XD
It can be difficult to find a good wig. And oooh gotcha. I'm the same way: I actually don't know how to sew super well, a lot of my stuff is bought. I'm working on it, but it can be a real set back when wanting to cosplay elaborate or unknown characters. @_@; Maybe you can commission someone for the KanColle outfit??
Yeah, I don't really like that comparison either. They're way too different, IMO. =P

They are very different, even though they're both idol MC's. It doesn't help that I'm also extremely biased towards iM@S. I do LOVE Love Live! but...it's just not the same kind of love or appreciation I have for my iM@S girls.
Oh good! I'm sure you could find some of it online or in thrift stores. But the intricate pieces are always a pain in the ass. XD I wish you all the luck in the world! Be sure to post pictures if you decide to pursue it, or finish your Hayate cosplay. c:

I think you definitely will, that's a really cool design and it seems relatively versatile! The boots and head piece might prove to be difficult, if anything. Are you doing all the fancy machinery as well?

Headpiece shouldn't be bad! You could use craft foam pieces stuck together and use paint to make it look more metal-y. I don't even know if I would attempt the machinery, but if you have the time and patience to do so, I think it would look pretty awesome.

No dinner is worth missing the waifu game! Well, not true...but I was just at this restaurant yesterday sooo. :/
Aww I wouldn't be concerned with matching other KanColle cosplayers. It's so hard to not compare yourself to other cosplayers though. However, I definitely think you'll still look great without all the crazy stuff. ^^ As long as you do a good job on the basics, you're set~
