That's like saying the GTA series is set in a completely fictional location not based on real-world ones, and the fun it pokes at various social circles is completely unfounded.
No, it's not, that's a bad comparison. GTA openly advertises that its environments are fictional renderings of real-world areas whereas as animated series quite often do not. It's easy to see how someone could make the mistake of thinking a scene setting is fictional in an animated series, in contrast to GTA, where they make it incredibly obvious.
