If you look at the pledge numbers for the higher rewards near the bottom it says 3 people pledged 10 grand, Im finding it hard to believe that.

A lot of projects have such donors. And they're often the first slots taken up.
I'm guessing there must be rich people who like this stuff as well- wasn't there a list of celebrities who like anime?
