The 44th FAKKU release is
Everyday Younglife Eros, a
Persona 4 doujin by
Omega 2-D. Spiffing good art, humour, and a lovable tomboy all make for a
beary enjoyable doujin.
Raze:
So I promised Teclo I'd translate a Persona 4 doujinshi of his own liking for a favor he did me a while ago, and we both agreed this one needed to be translated badly. Catch was, I have yet to play Persona 4 at all, so I'm glad he agreed to edit it. Teclo and I painstakingly worked to adhere this as closely to the NA release of the game as possible without losing too much of the original meaning as per my philosophy. Examples include Teddie's bear puns, Naoto's formal manner of speech, and rendering Yousuke's "YOUNGLIFE!" slogan to "Everyday's great at your Junes!".
By far the most problematic spot was when Naoto corrected herself on page 12, from "boku" to "atashi". I've detailed why it's a problem on the credits page, since it doesn't make sense to explain the same thing twice.
Editing-wise, there were a few out-of-bubble text (which are always a pain), but no semi-transparent bubbles, which is good. Downside was the scan's white was not uniform, and that caused some problems with the cleaning; hopefully it's all fixed now.
Teclo:
Naoto Shirogane is a talented "boy" detective in
Persona 4 and is brought in by the Inaba Police Department to help get to the bottom of the bizarre series of murders that are occurring, with no end in sight. The thing is, for reasons that I won't go into here, Naoto has taken it upon herself to dress, act and talk like a boy. As the game goes on, it's eventually revealed that she's a girl, but not without her leaving many a swooning schoolgirl and sexually confused schoolboy in her wake. If you've ever watched the anime
Ouran High School Host Club, you'll have seen a similar thing happening there.
Anyway, it was great working with Raze. Not only did he provide a great translation, he was lenient enough to play with the dialogue a bit to keep it familiar to Persona 4 fans who played the Atlus USA version but strict enough to stop me running away with the dialogue and changing it too much. He also gave me a crash-course in editing, this being my first time although I've casually used Photoshop for some time.
