JELR, from now on, regardless of what you think the receiving person would say, it's still better to go ahead and just say it. You will not lose anything for trying, and to my knowledge, a lot of girls don't like guys who do not sum up to courage to make the first move.
What I'm saying to you now will be relevant here and in RL. Regardless of what Shia said this time, you should not stop next time just because you think you'll get rejected. So what? If you don't try it, how will you know for sure? All that will happen is that you'll feel bad. It probably feels even worse than getting rejected after saying the stuff. If you get rejected, then obviously she isn't for you. You can then choose to work your way up and try again, or just choose someone else. Nothing harmful can come from trying.
I'm not criticizing you in any way. I just think you should know this since I think you will benefit greatly. So next time, don't be afraid. Just take the initiative and do the corresponding thing. :)
