One could determine it's from a english speaking country just because of the acronym.

I would have thought i would have assumed, but my introduction to it was from anime to begin with and once that happened I gave no connection to it being an english term what-so-ever.

Doesn't surprise me since the words used in the term are English.
But like you, I first heard it in animu.

I never really thought about it since it's a word used over here in the UK, didn't know it was used anywhere else apart from animu.

I assumed it was from animu and whatever and was gonna tell someone, but then fact checked myself before I did and learned it was actually from Britain, yeah. Interesting to find out.

Now that I think about it, the pronounciation of the vowel e is westernized. So I'm not surpised.
