As a whole I would say Americans are the most confident people I've ever met, the issue is really that a lot of them are confident for no apparent reason. I like Americans, most of my friends are American, but it requires a fair bit of tolerance to overlook the attitude sometimes.
I can agree with this and the only other thing I tend to see with Americans is a certain level of entitlement that is unrealistic. People feel they can have their cake and eat it too because they are American or that we are free to do so. Yeah we are a bit more lax and have a certain degree (or think we have) of independence, but nothing in life is free or will be handed down to us. The concept of you have to work hard to get what you want still applies even in the states.
If I had to use a better word I would say people are more self-centered/focused then selfish, though this can apply to many throughout the world, not just in the states. Both mean the same thing, but when I think of selfish I think of a person being inconsiderate of others more-so on purpose. A person who is more self-centered is preoccupied with their own affairs but can snap out of this and become less. Idk, most people are egocentric so I don't see Americans as the only one, it's a human trait we all have, were just known to be that way because we are outspoken.
