Swirling around in a circle of complexity
Enveloped in this dust bowl haze
Of racing hearts pounding ceaselessly
With deluded images of you and me.

Forget the following, erase these things,
Descend into an oblivion of ashes and smoke,
Smother the context and what truth it brings,
As we spiral in purgatory through these rings.

You're terrified, scarred, and burned,
The marks draw map lines and continents,
You wisp by on the wings of the wind, turned
Into another myth lacking in common sense
Lurking among these blackened woods... so dense.

Struggling below the surface, gasping for air,
Complacent eyes of a sacrifice,
Reject the construct and spit out a prayer,
Thrust forward, spasm, entice
Once more and drown out for a price.

Engines growl, tires spin, fibers burn...
A crisscrossing pavement of glass.

My heart beats out a solemn note for you
As the cement hardens and molds me into place,
I am the aftermath, the solid statue
Erected for you by supplicating hands
Covered in the residue of anguish and sorrow.

Into the depths we tremble,
Down and down,
Until there is nothing left
