Not to white knight or advocate Illumia's actions but here's a thought:
1) At least she's honest about it
2) Isn't attention one of the basic needs in one's life? If one doesn't get that satisfied early in life, they go to drastic measures to get such a thing satisfied. In Illumia's case, becoming a stripper and/or wanting attention from us. I'm gonna take a WAG and say she didn't get that attention she wanted as a kid.
