AoT did have flaws, but I just fucking hate why everyone else hates it.

There were plenty of monologs about how the monsters worked, and why they were leaving the walls.
>over dramatic
If there were monsters all over the world that ate only humans and you watched your friends and family get eaten alive, I'm sure you'd react.
There really wasn't a proper explanation as to what Titans are/where, and why they attack people. There's also no explanation why there are Titans frozen inside the walls. The author wanted to create something strange and mysterious but actually created something convoluted.(interesting premise, terrible execution)
As for it being overly dramatic that is a problem when the show tries to throw emotional cheap shots over the place by killing characters that weren't properly established and then expecting the viewer to feel something. If I wanted to watch a freaking snuff/gore film I would.
The show/manga also has godawful pacing(undeniable fact) and uninteresting characters(as the story progresses in the manga we're given something about the other members of the cast, but not nearly enough) with very little substance to them.
In my opinion it's not terrible, but it does warrant a lot of criticism. It being extremely popular with the "cashuls" did it no favors either("It appeals to the lowest common denominator" - bigger snobs than me).
