P.S. also people, watch Garden of Words. Also some good shit. I don't rate it as highly as 5 centimeters Per Second, but it's also pretty good, considering it came out in the year I consider the most awful recent anime year (2013)

Not gonna say I disliked 5cm per second but it isn't the ideal romantic anime. It's reliance on the "what could have been" sting isn't as hard hitting when you have a protagonist who just quits 1/4 of the way in. Amazing animation though. Surfer girl is best girl.

The Place Promised in Our Early Days?

It's about missed opportunities, and for whatever reason(fear and whatnot) that's pretty relatable. I don't think it's an ideal love story, but a tragic one that some, if not most of us have felt.

I would have to say One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Berserk or the Rurouni Kenshin OVAs. That's a few of the times I've really felt something special.

The Rurouni Kenshin OVAs are unique in that you can't appreciate how much the events in the OVA means to Kenshin before you watch the mediocre tv series.



It's his best movie for sure but like with all of his movies, it ends up feeling pretentious. 5cm/s doesn't suffer as much as his other movies because of how ambiguous it is.

I would also like to shift your eyes from Shinkai to Hosoda instead. His movies have much more charisma in them and I like his movies more than Shinkai's.

Ill look into it, I'm getting back into anime and Ill probably ask for some suggestions soon enough(in another thread).
